***Update- September 20, 2012***
Well, we didn’t have to wait too long to get the full versions of new singles, “Triple Threat” and “9th Inning”.
Missy Elliott released both songs this past Tuesday, along with a U stream featuring longtime producer and collaborator, Timbaland. Check out my review of each of the songs and get a chance to listen for yourself, if you haven’t already.
This song is extremely busy production wise. But if anybody can pull it off flawlessly, leave it up to Timbaland. The music here is part, jungle, part space ship, part funk and part Asian. Missy proclaims her and Timbaland to be the new “Ike and Tina” and spits plenty of hot talk that only she can back up. This song is less about a club banger (think some of her earlier hits like “Lose Control”) rather than a bold declaration with an old school flare, but ahead of its time all at once. Can’t wait to see the music video for this one.
If this is what being at a baseball game with Missy feels like, then I can’t wait to go. The production here is very dramatic and showcases another great match her and Timbaland. This will remind you of her song “She’s A B&^ch”, even though it’s actually a much better song and stands on its own well. Her flow her is more choppy and aggressive in comparison to “Triple Threat”. This is what real Hip Hop should be. You can always count on Missy to come in and save the day in the 9th Inning….thanks for bringing real music back.
Check out both songs below. What are your thoughts?

It’s been quite a while since fans have had a new CD from singer/rapper/producer/songwriter, etc (you get the point, she does it all…lol), Missy Elliott. Her last project, The Cookbook was released in 2005. Needless to say, her strong presence is missed and needed in current music. Block Party, her upcoming CD, is supposed to be released later this year. But it’s been in creation since 2008 and has even changed names a couple of times. Who knows when the project will really be released. We’ve heard from her sporadically on a few tracks (“Talk That S#$%” and “Shake Your Pom Pom”), but not a complete collection of tracks in almost a decade. But 7 is the number of perfection, and the woman who gets “$200 grand to eat Dorito chips” just may surprise us with her 7th release. And who cares what it’s called? Just give us the music Missy!
Well, she has broken her silence today with a countdown to the release of 2 brand new singles, “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat”. But turns out it wasn’t much of a countdown at all. Missy has tricked us and released just a snippet of one of the songs, “9th Inning”. Although I was ticked that she didn’t actually release both songs at 6:00pm CST (like her website suggested), the clip is amazing. It’s good to have Missy back, even if it’s just a snippet, lol. Hopefully we’ll hear the full versions of “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat” really soon.
Are you ready for the return of Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott? I know I am….her presence in music has definitely been missed. To check out the snippet of “9th Inning”, go to www.missy-elliott.com!
